Group Portraits

Group PortraitsThis could be called “Classical Rips Part 2” — in which the individual subject matter has been supplanted by the collective one.  Great political, religious and economic organizations were being formed and were effectively running Europe and the world by the 1600s. These early leagues needed commemorative art, and this became the first commercial art. What attracted me was that the individual had been supplanted by the collective.  Corporate art had arrived.
