Political

PoliticalThere was a time when great political upheavals elicited equally great art. For the most part, the camera and video can only record events, not comment on them as art can do.

It was the Roman poet Juvenal who goaded the reader in Satire 1 with the comment:  “How could I NOT write satire, what with all the corruption, all the free material just lying around, just begging to be exploited.” I am astonished that artists have largely ignored the realities and happenings of our present world situation, preferring more aesthetic and formal conceits. Why is there so little art that addresses the realities of the world we share and live in?
